Still Using a ball mouse... - this may help :

This mouse is useless.  I can't stand it when it doesn't move or it just jumps around.  Sound familiar?

Smashing a mouse with a hammer is something you  have probably always wanted to do,  however, that's a pretty drastic way to seek revenge on your mouse.  All too often your mouse is just dirty and needs to be cleaned.  There is no guarantee that cleaning your mouse each time will fix the problem.  After a while, it's time to stop feeding them little cheese bytes, and buy a new one.

There is a better way than the hammer. A couple of items that you will need are; clean cotton type swabs, some Isopropyl Alcohola little water, a can of compressed air (like Dust Off®), and some mild soap for the mouse ball.

Turn your mouse on its back.

Twist the ball cover on the mouse until the cover unlocks, then remove the mouse ball.

Inside the mouse are 3 rollers. (some may have only 2)

Two of the rollers are at right angles to each other and only rotate.

The third roller is narrower and spring-loaded. This third roller will give slightly when you press it.

You will probably see dark lines of dirt that have accumulated on the rollers.  These lines of dirt build up and cause jerky or erratic movement of the mouse.  To clean the rollers, moisten  the tip of a cotton swab with the isopropyl alcohol. Rub the rollers from side to side with the cotton swab to remove the dirt (keep the mouse at an angle so the debris does not fall into the mouse. Repeat until the rollers are clean.

If you have some compressed air, spray the inside of the mouse to remove any debris that may have fallen inside.  Make sure to keep the can of air in an upright position, so you do not freeze up the inside of your mouse.

The mouse ball can be cleaned with soap and water. Remember to dry the mouse ball thoroughly before you put it back into the mouse. Do not, at any time, use liquids or cleaners in or near your mouse or computer!

All of the dirt in your mouse has come off of your mouse pad. Some pads are made of neoprene, (like wetsuit material which is material with a foam backing), and need to be vacuumed or shaken out occasionally. Other mouse pads are made of harder material, (plastic or metal with a foam backing), which can be wiped with a cloth, using a mild soap and water.

IF ALL ELSE FAILS --- maybe you could get an optical mouse...   (no balls to clean!)
